Johnny Martinez is a videographer and editor based in Central, IL with a B.A. in Cinema and Photography from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
As an artist, Johnny has tapped into both narrative and documentary content. His narrative work showcases an interest in the abstract and absurd. Taking influence from programs found on Adult Swim and the filmography of David Lynch, Johnny specializes in creating surreal sketch-based comedy shorts.
In his documentary work, Johnny focuses on the artistic process and has explored the music/art scene in Southern Illinois. Notably, his short subject piece "VHS GIRL: Movie Paintings on Wood" screened at the Foxtail Film Festival and won Best University Documentary Film.
Johnny has garnered experience in the field by working on various short films and projects during his time in university. He garnered much of his experience as a staff member for the student-run television program alt.news 26:46 from the College of Mass Communication & Media Arts at Southern Illinois University Carbondale that airs on the University's PBS member station, WSIU.
With experience in collaborating and working with various crew sizes, Johnny thrives under the company of like-minded artists and creates work that prioritizes creativity above anything else. He continues to produce informative and comedic content that fulfills his creative and artistic vision for the media that he loves and cherishes.
